When 80-year-old Peter Lynch turned up to his 9.30 am appointment at Yarrawonga’s ANZ Bank this morning, he was instead greeted with a staff member putting a sign on the door.
The bank was closed, due to staff shortages, and neither Peter nor any of the others waiting had received a call to say their appointment was cancelled.
Three weeks ago, Peter said he went into the bank to prove his identity and there were 10 people in line.
“There usually are big line ups because they aren’t open all the time,” Peter said.
“I think a lot of people will be changing to the local bank.”
“Older people can’t take this inconvenience; one lady was on a walker, and one said she had driven (a long way).”
Peter says he was told by the staff member that he should have Googled whether the bank was open before coming.
“But who is going to google when you have an appointment,” he said.
“I usually bank online but today I had to prove my identity.”
