“The funds are being used to facilitate our KyFit gym-based mentoring programs and camps, ensuring that cost is not a barrier of participation for young people,” Blue Light program co-ordinator and Senior Constable Mitchell Bull said.
Victoria’s CDS is a recycling initiative where consumers receive a 10-cent refund for returning eligible drink containers to collection points.
The scheme reduces litter and landfill, while also providing a valuable fundraising opportunity for individuals, charities and community groups.
“It’s a win for the community and a win for the environment,” VicReturn chief executive Matt Davis said.
“We ask our members, participants, their families and the wider community to collect containers and drop them to refund points using our donation barcode,” Sen Constable Bull said.
“Or contact us, and we will arrange pick-up of donated containers.”
The results of the scheme across Campaspe Shire are impressive, with more than 35 million containers returned since launching in 2023, putting $3.5 million back into Victorians’ pockets.
