The draft copy of the new governance rules outlines how council meetings will run, how council decisions will be informed through participation by the community, the election (caretaker) period policy and the procedures for staff, councillors and committee members when identifying and declaring conflicts of interest.
“The new governance rules have to replace our existing meetings procedures local law, which has been in place since 2014,” Strathbogie Shire Mayor Amanda McClaren said.
“It has provided us with the opportunity to enable more public participation in council meetings and makes our processes around such things as disclosures of conflict of interest more transparent.”
Council has also prepared a new local law relating to the use of its common seal which is used on documents through a council resolution.
“These two draft documents are key in ensuring we achieve high standards of good governance,” Cr McClaren said.
“This means having clear and consistent processes for involving people who are affected by the decisions we are making. The benefit to having good processes is that it leads to better outcomes for our community.”
Hard copies of these documents can be picked up from council's customer service centres at 109A Binney St, Euroa, and 293 High St, Nagambie, during office hours. Electronic copies can be found on council's website.
