If so, you are invited to join the Municipal Association of Victoria’s online candidate information workshop on August 19.
Local government elections take place on October 24 and, with COVID-19 impacting candidates’ ability to meet community members face-to-face, campaigning will be different.
The workshop aims to ensure potential councillor candidates are equipped with all the information they need to decide on a role in local government.
The Stand for Council Community and Candidate Information workshop will cover the role and purpose of local government, the new Local Government Act 2020, introduction to council and information on the municipal area, roles, responsibilities and expectations of a councillor and the experience of being a councillor
Potential candidates must undertake mandatory candidate training sessions run by the Victorian Government.
More details will be announced soon.
Mitchell Shire acting chief executive Mary Agostino said being a councillor was a wonderful way to support and shape the shire.
“It is a rewarding job for many who choose to run. Mitchell Shire is a wonderful place full of amazing people from all different walks of life,” she said.
“We will continue to work towards creating a healthy, sustainable community as our population continues to grow. If you’ve ever thought about joining us on this journey, now is the time to find out more.”
