Mr Steet has worked in health for more than 30 years, with the past 22 years in senior and executive level positions. He has a background as a physiotherapist specialising in neurological rehabilitation.
Mr Steet has worked in both the public and private sectors in Australia and overseas, having lived and worked in Canada, the United States and New Zealand.
During the past three years he served as chief executive at Omeo District Health, a small rural health service in the East Gippsland High Country near Mt Hotham.
This role provided him with a sound understanding of the unique requirements specific to a health service of this size, including the wellbeing needs of both staff and the community.
Following his decision to move from the mountains to the river, Mr Steet is now looking forward to discovering more about the local area.
“I am enthusiastic about the opportunities Seymour presents both professionally and recreationally for myself and my family,” he said.
The Seymour Health board selected Mr Steet to replace retiring chief executive Chris McDonnell, who had been in the role for more than seven years.
Mr Steet paid tribute to Mr McDonnell.
“I acknowledge and thank Chris McDonnell for handing over Seymour Health in such good shape,” he said.
