About 130 greyhounds are expected to be available for adoption during the weekend. If you are interested in adopting a greyhound, GAP’s adoption days are the perfect opportunity to meet some amazing dogs and learn more about the breed.
GAP helps retired racing greyhounds, as well as greyhounds who have never raced, find forever homes.
During the program, the greyhound’s complete pet-skills training, such as walking on a lead and being in a home, and a temperament assessment to ensure they are safe around smaller dogs.
If a greyhound requires more time to adjust to life after racing, they are paired with a foster carer who meets their specific needs and can help them settle into a home.
Once the greyhound has passed the GAP process, they are given a green GAP collar and are ready for adoption.
GAP is the number one match-making program for greyhounds and is committed to ensuring all the connections made through GAP are well suited for both the greyhound and the new owner.
While GAP strives to achieve a perfect match from the outset, all adoptions are subject to a three-week trial period and greyhounds are always welcomed back should you no longer be able to provide a home for them.
People who wish to attend the weekend or adopt a greyhound should register their interest by completing the registration available at gap.grv.org.au/events/greyhound-adoption-day/
Even if you are not ready to adopt, the weekend is a way to find out more about greyhounds with GAP staff and volunteers on hand to answer questions.
It’s on January 17, 18 and 19 from 10 am to 3 pm each day at 298 Goulburn Valley Hwy, Seymour.
