Witnesses and police pulled the driver and two passengers from the vehicle.
Paramedics worked on a 16 year-old Montrose boy who had been sitting in the back seat, but he died at the scene.
The driver, 16, from Chirnside Park and his front seat passenger, also 16, suffered serious injuries and were taken to hospital for treatment.
The investigation into the crash remains open and anyone who witnessed what happened is urged to contact police.
