A 17-year-old male will appear in the Youth Justice Court charged with murder, wounding and assault after a young man died in a weekend stabbing in a popular waterfront tourist precinct.
Emergency services were called to the Morrison Street car park at Hobart's Salamanca Place about midnight on Saturday following reports of an altercation between two groups of people.
A 20-year-old man died from his injuries and a 23-year-old man was taken to Royal Hobart Hospital, where he remained on Monday with non-life-threatening injuries.
Police said it appeared to be an "isolated incident" that was possibly linked to a previous incident involving a person from each group.
Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
Police would like to speak to anyone who has information and has not already spoken to investigators.
"We're working through a lot of CCTV footage, speaking to witnesses and trying to establish exactly how many people are involved," Detective Inspector Mark Burke told reporters on Sunday.
A 20-year-old has also been charged with assault over the melee.
