The offer of a much-prized extra staffer came on Monday but was rejected, with One Nation leader Pauline Hanson branding it a bribe designed to divide the party and buy Mr Farley's favour.
All politicians are allowed at least five taxpayer-funded staff, but only the prime minister can green-light additional hires.Â
One Nation leader Pauline Hanson has been clamouring for more hires on par with the Greens, even teaming up with stark political opposite Senator Fatima Payman in September to introduce a bill stripping the prime minister's power to grant staff.
"Dirty games are afoot," One Nation senator Sean Bell told News24 on Friday.
"The plan is to distract and divide - and David, he's done the right thing, he has called this out, he stood with One Nation, and he's exposed these dirty games because the Labor party - there's no level they won't stoop to."
Greens leader David Shoebridge expressed support for revamping how staffers are allocated.
"We can all see how staffing when it's in the hands of only one political player - in the hands of the prime minister - it doesn't have the transparency," he told reporters in Canberra on Friday.
"There needs to be a better way to allocate parliamentary staff than simply from the whim of the prime minister and I find it strange that that's somehow controversial."
But the Greens voted against a Senate inquiry into the bill of senators Hanson and Payman on October 15, just days after Mr Albanese granted the party 15 extra hires.
"We had a translation of the staffing that was allocated to Larissa Waters - it was translated over to the leadership office under mine and Steph Hodgson-May's team," Senator Shoebridge said.
Senator Payman had stunned a Senate estimates inquiry on Monday by accusing Mr Albanese of ignoring her years-old plea for extra helping hands over lingering bitterness at her defecting from Labor in 2024.
She made a request almost two years previously and received no formal response, while newer MPs and the Greens were swiftly accommodated, she said.
Elected in May, Mr Farley has been painted potentially susceptible to being poached by Labor after it was revealed he tried to stand as a candidate for the party in 2021.
The offer of an extra hire allegedly came with a sweetener in the form of proposed sustainability grants for the Murray Darling Basin, where the One Nation MP's electorate of Farrer is, a statement from the party released on Thursday read.
Labor frontbenchers on Friday said it was routine for politicians with large rural electorates to be granted more help.
