Human remains believed to be those of a woman allegedly murdered nearly a decade ago have been discovered by detectives, three years after her son was charged with murder.

Police have been searching for 71-year-old Nadire Sensoy since she disappeared from her Prospect home in western Sydney in 2018.

Selim Sensoy, 47, was arrested at Wagga Wagga Police Station in 2023 and charged with domestic violence murder between December 6 and 11 in 2018 in the Blacktown area.

Police have been searching for the mother since she disappeared without a trace, with detectives in 2020 offering a $350,000 reward for information that would help solve the case.

In 2023, a coronial inquest into Ms Sensoy's death was opened, although was soon suspended after new information came to light.

Police said officers on Tuesday began to search a property on Powers Road at Seven Hills, and located human remains.

"The remains will undergo forensic examination to determine the identity of the person; however, police believe they are those of the missing woman," a police spokesperson said.

Police continue to await the outcome of the analysis, with investigations ongoing.
