Arrested T-shirt protester slams slogan crackdown

Ms Carter, who wore a T-shirt with the banned phrase, told AAP she did not know the slogan had been outlawed when she left home to attend the rally.

"One of the speakers mentioned it had literally just become illegal but I wasn't aware," she said.

She said she did not have other clothes to change into and could not go home without missing the rally.

The phrase, widely adopted by pro-Palestinian supporters, and the words "globalise the intifada" were banned by the state government in February.

"This is about drawing a clear line - and stamping out the embers of hatred that were allowed to burn unchecked for too long - to ensure we protect Queenslanders," Premier David Crisafulli previously said.

But Ms Carter, who said she was forcibly grabbed and dragged to a police van when spotted wearing the shirt, said the new laws did not protect anyone.

"They're just designed to make people feel suppressed, make people feel like they can't speak," she said.

The teenager said police held her for three to four hours before she was released with a caution.

Liam Parry was also arrested at the rally on Wednesday and was charged with the recital, distribution, publication or display of prohibited expressions.

He is due to appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court on April 8.

Global Sumud Flotilla Australia spokesman and new Queensland resident Subhi Awad said pro-Palestine groups were strategically approaching the bans.

"We don't want to see people hurt or chaos on the street," he told AAP.

"Australians know when a law is unfair and this one doesn't pass the test."

But any civil disobedience would not extend to that seen on London streets when UK authorities proscribed Palestine Action as a terrorist group.

Protesters there got creative, campaigning for Plasticine Action until a court invalidated the proscription in February.

Mr Awad said the grounds on which the law would be challenged would be revealed next week.
