Career-changing win for Aussie golfer Bennett

Australian golfer Kelsey Bennett has overcome wild weather to claim the biggest win of her burgeoning career at the Australian Women's Classic on the NSW Central Coast.

Bennett defied a heavy rainstorm at Magenta Shores on Sunday to sign for a final round of one-under 71 - one of only three sub-par rounds for the day.

Bennett's four-round total of 13-under 275 saw the 26-year-old triumph by four shots from British duo Meghan MacLaren and Caley McGinty in the tournament co-sanctioned by the WPGA Tour of Australasia and the Ladies European Tour (LET).

"I actually really was stoked when I woke up and the conditions were really tough because I knew it wasn't going to be anyone's. And if I hung in there well, it was mine for the taking, so that was good," Bennett said.

"I was a little shaky over that last putt, not going to lie. The last thing you want is a little three footer. At least it was uphill."

And on her trio of dropped shots Bennett added: "They were pretty rough. I don't know. It was still really tough conditions, so those bogeys didn't feel overly bad."

The victory vaulted Bennett into top spot on the LET Order of Merit and earned her guaranteed starts in the Women's British Open and the Evian Championship later this year.

She will now turn her attention to the Women's Australian Open starting in Adelaide on Thursday.
