With an environmental block at the back of the school measuring to one acre, the school prides itself on providing learning and hands-on experience with looking after the environment.
“So the kids go from learning about environmental science in the classroom to actually doing it down the back there. It's fantastic, it’s a great piece of space,” Tongala Primary’s learning specialist Dylan Cuttriss said.
Tongala Primary is also on its way to becoming a restorative school with the organisation Real Schools, which works with schools in providing a healthy school culture and having restorative conversations with students.
The learning doesn’t stop there.
For the upcoming education week, Tongala Public school has a full calender starting with a trip to Melbourne Zoo on Monday, May 23.
Following this, the theatre company Alfa productions will visit during the week, getting the students involved in a production.
On Wednesday there will be an open morning where parents can tour the school as well as an information session for prospective parents that night.
That same day at 11am, the school will join other schools across the country for the Australian Library and Information Association’s simultaneous storytime session where a book will be read to the students by principal Robert Hogan.
After all this, the week will finish off with a netball competition for the year 5/6 students on Friday.
Tongala’s Primary’s open morning is from 9am to 10am on Wednesday, May 25, and the information session at 6pm that night. New and current parents are welcome to come along and see what the school’s about.
