There is plenty to keep children occupied these school holidays in the Greater Shepparton region.

Free and low-cost activities have been organised across the region to encourage families to get out into the community and have fun.

One of the exciting activities that will get the kids racing is pedal go-karts in Shepparton’s Maude Street Mall.

Tuesday’s session saw kids come through periodically, taking turns to speed around the track.

Members of the Singh family, visiting from Melbourne, took the opportunity to play on the go-karts as they enjoyed their holiday.

Alisha Singh was feeling quite confident in her go-karting skills as she rode around the course.

“It was really fun. I was trying to get in front of everyone. We only do go-karting in holiday parks, but I liked doing it here,” she said.

Kabir Singh, Alisha’s little brother, rode around the outside of the course, proving to be a bit too small for the racetrack.

“The small bike is really easy, that’s why my brother is using it,” Alisha said as she pointed at him riding around the area.

Leonie and Rowan Simpson own hire service It’s Party Time Jumping Castles and have found that the pedal go-karts have been a hit with kids these holidays.

“It’s a bit slow today but usually we have quite a few kids lining up and racing around the track,” Ms Simpson said.

As the day went on, more kids started trickling in. Older boys tried to skid around the corner in an effort to beat each other, and younger kids chased their siblings as they drove around the hay bales.

The pedal go-karts will be back at Maude Street Mall on Thursday and Saturday, January 6 and 8, from 10am to 1pm.
