And by combining their energy and skills, the Seymour Lions came away with a well-earned win, accounting for Northern Angels (a combination team from Numurkah and Nathalia) by 62 points.
In what was a hard fought first quarter, Seymour’s Molly Libardi showed the way with her fierce attack on the footy, while Siobhan Laffan led strongly and converted her efforts into a goal.
But it wasn’t until the second quarter that the Lions really took off, with Libardi combining with fellow midfielders Emily Chapman, Chloe Locke and Lucy Dawe in dialling up the tempo.
With Seymour pushing through to forward duo Freya Parker and Bree Merrifield, the scoreboard begun to tick over and show reward for effort for the work of the relentless Lions.
In what was a great game for the sisterhood, the Seal, Merrifield and Libardi sisters all played great team football.
And it was this teamwork, along with hard work, that gave the Seymour players good use of the football with great passages of play eventuating from contested possessions.
Special mention was also given post-match to Monique Purchase and Ricky-lee Burgess who played for the Northern Angels for the match and were also undoubtedly among the best players for the opposition.
And after revelling in a loud rendition of the team song, the Seymour Lions quickly reminded themselves of a powerhouse Shepp team they face next week and set off to work.
Final score: Seymour 11.10 (76) def Northern Angels 2.2 (14)
Best: S. Seal, S. Merrifield, C. Locke, M. Libardi, L. Dawe, E. Chapman.
