Mitchell Shire Council is calling on the community to help catch people responsible for dumping a large amount of industrial waste on one of its roadsides.
Council is treating the material, which was dumped on Donovans Lane south of Beveridge, as asbestos.
Alternative access arrangements are in place for nearby properties.
An accredited removalist was organised to clean up the area and council will continue to monitor the site and take any extra action as needed.
The recent wet weather has fortunately helped contain the pile.
It poses no threat to the community if it remains undisturbed.
Unfortunately, clean-up costs are expected to be more than $30000, which is a huge cost burden for ratepayers to bear.
Police and Environment Protection Authority Victoria have been notified.
The matter is being investigated.
