With previous works well received by audiences, Sean said he was relishing the opportunity to work in the intimate space in Seymour.
Sean’s works have been performed by Broadford Amateur Theatre and several of his one act plays have been performed at the Seymour One Act Play Festival.
The new plays, This is Not and The Worker, have all the hallmarks of Sean’s theatre, with the continuing theme of examining what it is to be human.
The playwright asks his audience to think about big issues while they are entertained. The audience members are often laughing while simultaneously being challenged to see things through a different lens.
This is Not is an absurdist comedy, ably performed by local actors Kristen May and Fionnuala McKenna. It is described as being about appearance and disappearance, and the two actresses bring a wealth of experience and skill, taking the audience on a journey of self-discovery.
The second play, The Worker, is set in an inner suburban high rise and explores stories of hope, dreams, disappointments and loss through the eyes of a Salvation Army outreach worker.
“My last time performing in Seymour went really well. It’s a great space and I jumped at the opportunity to perform in the Schoolhouse Theatre again,” Sean said.
“It’s great to see so much theatre happening in Seymour. The Seymour Performers Workshop is doing a fantastic job providing regular shows for the community.
“The two new plays incorporate comedy but are a not entirely light. This is Not is unusual as it focuses on internal dialogue of the main character.
“The Worker is based around several characters I met when I worked as an outreach worker for the Salvos in North Melbourne.”
The plays are on October 5 at 7.30pm and October 6 at 2pm at the Schoolhouse Theatre, 50 Tallarook St, Seymour.
