With both sides challenging for three quarters of the match, it was the Lions who ran out the better of the two teams, outscoring the Cats 18-8 in the final 15 minutes.
With Sarah Szcykulski returning to strengthen her sides defensive chops, Laura Garland feeding well into the ring, and Jess Lallo (28 goals) and Ellie O’Sullivan (22) combining in attack, it looks like the other GVL teams will need to bring their A-game to challenge the Lions.
The win sees Seymour (5-1) move ahead of third and fourth placed Shepp Swans and Echuca only through percentage, with Shepp United a clear game ahead at the top of the table.
The Lions will return after the Interleague bye to face Kyabram, who sit seventh on the ladder.
●Seymour’s earlier matches saw the visitors make a clean sweep of the wins on offer, with B-grade celebrating a 34-goal win over Mooroopna while B-reserve got over the top by 20 goals. In the juniors, both the Under-17s and Under-15s beat their counterparts by 32 goals respectively.
