Riding the popular Mithelton loop course of 47km, three grades fought it out for the crown of club champion.
The A-grade event was raced at a fast pace as speeds were over 40km/h for much of the race which made it difficult for riders to get clear.
Darryl O’Keefe and Bret Bender did find themselves off the front for a few kilometres but were reeled in, ensuring the race would be decided in a sprint finish.
O’Keefe kept the pace high in the lead up to the finish on Manse Hill and with 200m to go Michael Thomson went for it with a crank-breaking effort.
With Shayne Kirby glued to his back wheel Thomson kicked again and sealed the victory ahead of an exhausted Kirby with Bender holding on for a gutsy third.
The B-grade and C-grade fields started together where father and son Brian Inness (B) and Adam Inness (C) rode clear at Mangalore and stayed away for much of the race.
This turned out to be a smart tactic on the chasing groups part as Ian Baker (B) said to leave them out there, ensuring the Inness duo would no doubt fatigue, being out-numbered.
The risky move paid off for Baker who was too strong in the closing kilometres and on the climb to the finish was a clear B-grade champion ahead of Inness Snr, with Victor Nash third.
Inness Jnr claimed the C-grade title ahead of Glenn Christensen with Pat Tubbs third.
There will be no racing over the Easter long weekend.
Racing will resume on Saturday, April 27 from the Glenaroua F.S at 2pm.
