The out markers are improving every week which is evident by the reduced times they are being given.
Limit rider Maitland Wallace had a minute, 30secs taken off his start while the next group was cut back to seven minutes.
These times will again be reduced as they held off all chasers. Wallace made it two in a row, finishing only a few metres ahead of Adam Inness (7min) and Caine Mason (7min).
The scratch group weren’t far behind with Michael Thomson posting the fastest time of 37:04 for the 25km.
Saturday’s race saw a return to hot weather with riders tackling the Mitchelton loop course of 47km.
The limit group got off to a poor start as one rider punctured 2km into the race and one rider succumbed to the heat and withdrew, leaving Brian Inness to ride solo.
Inness was caught by the 8:30 group where he shared the workload with ease. Further back scratch caught the 2:30 group at Mitchelton Winery making it a strong eight-man group.
They went on to catch Inness and company with 15km to go and now had the limit group on their minds. Not knowing there was no one out front, the scratchmen continued to work hard all the way to the finish thinking they were sprinting for third place.
Neil O’Sullivan (2:30) timed his sprint to perfection, crossing the line ahead of Brett Bender (8:30), Darryl O’Keefe (scratch) third and fastest time (1:09:35), Michael Thomson (scratch) fourth and Peter Cooper (scratch) fifth.
