The Lions and Tigers had a cut-throat start to the contest, as 10 goals found their way onto the scoreboard between the two clubs in the first quarter, Seymour sniffing out a two-point lead at the first break, 5.3 (33) to 5.1 (31).
Rochester remained within touching distance at the main break despite Seymour dominating territory and control of the football, with the Lions and Tigers scoring just one goal each in the period but the former sailing through six behinds to the latter’s none - marking an eight-point advantage as the predator cat-named clubs entered the rooms.
Following the half time regroup, it was Seymour that was released from its shackles, limiting Rochester to a behind while the Lions scored eight times for a return of 3.5.
The Tigers played with spark in the final term in an attempt to cause a late boilover, outscoring Seymour in a quarter for the first time, but the home side had done enough at Kings Park to record a 22-point victory, 11.16 (82) to 9.6 (60).
Nicholas Quigg and Tom Stapleton were Seymour’s best, as a Hugh Hamilton bag of five was not enough for Rochester to get over the line.
Rochester face an in-form Mooroopna outfit in round 10, while Seymour are tasked with a compelling Shepparton United side at Deakin Reserve in what could be match of the round.
