Midweek pennant
All Seymour teams played away from home with limited success, with division four the only winner.
Division one travelled to face top side Shepparton Golf Bowls Club and went down by 20 shots overall. Ian Eichfuss’ rink was never in the hunt, falling well behind early and unable to recover for a 19-shot loss. Rob Brown’s rink could not sustain an early lead, losing that lead on the 16th end. It still had a sniff on the last end when down by three before going down by six. Max Hammond’s team flew the flag for Seymour. After being four down after 20 ends, it produced nine unanswered shots over the final five ends to win by four. Well done!

Maureen Prudden’s rink led by two after 12 ends but lost the next eight ends before eventually going down by 10. Dale Sellick’s rink led by seven with three ends to play before getting the wobbles. A single on the last end secured a two-shot victory and some pride and points salvaged on the day.

Congratulations to John Jennings on his pennant debut. Jan McCarthy’s rink recovered from 10 shots down to get within two with four ends to play before also falling five short. Although not recording points on the day, they did not come home empty-handed, recovering Billy Solomon’s lunch box left there two years earlier.

Division three retained top spot on the ladder with a convincing win at Mooroopna. Despite being down after seven ends, Max Hammond’s rink dominated the back end of the match to win by 13. It was also a 13-shot win to Biggles’ rink, which won the first four ends and went on to finish the job. Graeme Flint’s rink did a demolition job on its opponent, at one stage leading 37-1, before finishing with a 33-shot victory. Ian Eichfuss’ rink was locked in a close contest all day. Division four hosted cross-town rival VRI. As usual when VRI visits, we lock up all the valuables, but Seymour was unable to prevent VRI going home with the biggest prize – the Stuart Arthur Doyle trophy. While rinks were shared two each, VRI won by a convincing 24 shots. Allan Welsh made his debut as a skip with an impressive 16-shot win. Eon Densworth’s team knocked over its previously unbeaten opponents, breaking a tied game on the last end to win by three. Wendy Hutton’s rink was level after 10 ends but lost the next eight ends, eventually going down by 17. Eliot Jarman’s rink was also a bit of a train wreck. They were never in the hunt after dropping the first couple of ends and lost by 26. Congratulations to VRI. Seymour will now look to next season to bring Stuey home!

However, Shepparton Golf won the last three ends and the game, 26-18.
