NAGAMBIE
December 23-30 results
The best card of the year was saved for the last round of 2020 with a mammoth 53 stableford points compiled by David Clonan. Forty-six points had been the score to beat, which was posted by Des Phelan back in November 2019, but an extended season caused by COVID-19 saw that benchmark get crushed on Sunday, December 27.
Clonan turned at the halfway with 25 points, only to better that with a closing 28 to comfortably steal the honour board spot from Phelan.
Runner-up on the day went to Troy Clonan, who was a whole 12 points behind the winner carding 41.
Rounding out the top three was the previous week's winner, Ryan Ezard, who maintained his good form but hurt his handicap with 41 points.
The nearest-the-pin prizes were all that was left to win after David Clonan's stunning runaway victory.
Rifling it onto the third was Wayne ‘the bullet’ Le Cerf before Peter Davies roared one up to the 16th.
● Nagambie Golf Club’s chicken run results for December 24 saw 21 players compete, with John Humphries the winner with +3 on a countback from Shaun Spicer.
There were no nearest-the-pins brought in.
December 31 - January 5 results
Nagambie golfers took to the course for the first time in 2021 with rain threatening but not eventuating.
Shaun Spicer exploded from the blocks, taking the win and a Monthly Medal with a finely crafted 84-17-67.
Spicer was consistent off the tee before getting the job done with his troublesome putter to win by two. Runner-up was David Love with another good number of 83-14-69, but as they say in golf "he left a few out there".
Rounding out the top three with some very solid ball striking — as reported by his playing partners — was an in-form Michael Roberts with 76-5-71.
The nearest to the pins were achieved by Jeremy Ezard attacking the eighth, Lindsay Hall for a kick-in birdie on the 13th and Glen Evans doing something similar on the 16th.
This week will see the beginning of a summer four-ball best-ball pennant season with Nagambie taking on Rushworth at Mooroopna. This will be the first time any pennant has been played in 12 months. Meanwhile, local golf will continue with a stableford event being played with J. Ezard on office duty and T. Baldwin in the bar.
● Nagambie's chicken run winner on the back nine on December 31 was Rob VanTilburg with a good score of 43-13.5=29.5 nett.
With the same numbers playing as the previous week, Terry Lowis was able to strike both the 13th and 16th greens.
The chicken run will continue each week as there are no breaks for this during the holiday season. This week will be a stableford round on the front nine.
All players are reminded to tick the entry-amount when paying to play.
