The Nagambie golf course is accustomed to wind sweeping through but Sunday's conditions were possibly the strongest constant wind in recent memory, with frequent powerful gusts.
The adverse conditions had little effect on the day's winner though. Just like his beloved Tigers the night before, mad Richmond supporter Peter Davies transferred his euphoria from the grand final win to a win on the golf course with a hard fought 38 stableford points.
Runner-up with 37 points was Brad Thompson, proving he too can play in difficult weather.
Third place was rounded out by in-form junior Ryan Ezard with a nicely crafted 35 points.
The nearest the pins not surprisingly were difficult to get near due to the gale force winds smashing the course. But ‘Fancy’ Phil Hageman and his herculean effort got one onto the third, before Barry Cryer — using his low ball flight to his advantage, otherwise known as a grubber — got one up to the 13th.
Next week's golf will be a stroke monthly medal with a summertime tee-off beginning from 8-8.30 am. Office duty will be S. McCormick with J. Lodding in the bar.
● On Wednesday, October 21, 12 women played a stableford round and the monthly medal. The winner of A-grade and the monthly medal was Annette Mills with 39 points, while the winner of B-grade and C-grade was Jane Bow with 32 points.
The nine-hole winner was Moz Fowler on a countback from Annette with 21 points.
The 18-hole balls went to Annette 39, Sue Verge 37 and Irene Keogh 33.
The nine-hole balls went to Moz 21, Annette 21 and Jo Goodacre 20.
Nearest the pin was Irene on the eighth and Sally Bazeley on the 13th.
Three men played, with Glen Evans taking out everything, including 18 holes and nine holes with 34 and 15 points, and also nearest the pin on the 13th.
Next week will be stableford.
The chicken run held on Thursday, October 22 had 25 players playing par. The winner with 2 was Dave Love on countback from Shami Rahman, Peter Lawrence and Harold Rayner. Irene Keogh was the only nearest-the-pin winner, managing that on the 16th.
Next week will be stroke.
