It was the monthly medal for the women last Wednesday and in a bit of a shock to the system, the first game of stroke in some time was played.
The day started out dry but there were intermittent showers towards the end of the round. But that didn’t seem to bother Dale Stuart though who played a steady round to win the day and the medal with 71.
The nearest to the pin on the 17th was Glenda Woods and the balls went to Dale Stuart, Jane Fletcher and Dilva Grattan with net 76 on a countback.
The men had a more persistent rain in their round but it was a smaller field that decided to take on the ominous weather forecast.
Gary Wright (12) won with his score of 34 points on a countback from John Mundy. Each of them claimed a nearest the pin - John Mundy on the 4th and Gary Wright on the 6th with the 6th and the 4th staying with the club.
The mixed nine holes was won by Stubby Byrne (25) with a great score of 22 points. The runner-up was Dawn Leece, also with a good score of 19 points. Ron Wilson and Duncan Chisholm had 16 and 13 respectively to be in the ball pool.
The weather was much kinder on Saturday after a wet end to the working week.
The men’s championships continued, but with only two rounds played it is too early to have definitive leaders yet.
The best score of the day by far went to Ben Davey who had a fantastic score of 65 to win B-grade.
The A-grade winner, also with the best scratch score of the day, was Matt O’Sullivan with 75 on a countback from Ian Richardson. The C-grade winner was Don Gee with 73.
No one claimed the nearest to the pin on the 4th, the 6th was won by Mark Fountain, while the 12th and the 17th both went to Peter Sawyer.
The drive and pitch on the 8th was won by Luke Rogan and the 15th by Greg Pell. A score of net 75 was needed for the ball pool.
The women’s championships started on Saturday and Jane Fletcher won the day with 76 on a countback from Sue McCall.
The extra completion was the nearest to the pin on the 17th and this was also won by Jane Fletcher. The ball pool went to Jane Fletcher, Sue McCall, Pam Jarvis and Paula Britton with net 80.
This Friday the social nine holes will be stableford over holes 7-15, before both the men and the women continue the championships on Saturday.

The youth of Ryan Ezard and maturity of Alan Anderson combined beautifully to take out the 2020 Finnigan Four-ball with a two-week total of +18.
The challengers came at them thick and fast but it was Ezard managing to be on the card 13 times and play with a level of maturity beyond his years that staved off the contenders.
Alan Anderson performed when required to take home his second Finnigan four-ball title in three years.
The charge at the leaders came from the fancied pairing of Tim Baldwin and Ben Cassar who fell agonisingly short, finishing the two weeks on 17.
The one-hole head-start at the start of the day proved the difference. Rounding out the top three were new members Shami Rahman and Tony Favero with the best round of the second week (10) for a two-week total of 15.
The day's four-ball event - sponsored by ABS Shepparton - was won by Shami Rahman and Tony Favero as mentioned earlier with a brilliant 10 to take home the wares of our day's sponsor.
Runners-up were Shaun Bryant and David Love on nine, with Bryant putting together the best round of his career with a four-over 76, delighting his partner for a change in actually doing something.
Third went the way of Tim Baldwin and Ben Cassar on eight with the boys doing very well from prizes and sponsors on the day.
Surprisingly with the big field, only two of the four nearest the pins went off, with John James taming one of his irons to hit the 13th and Terry Wallis - our leader after week one - managing to get one to stick into a stiff breeze on the 16th.
The members and committee of the Nagambie Golf Club would like to thank our sponsors of the Finnigan four-ball, Dean Brown Carpet Cleaning and ABS Shepparton, for their long and continuing association with the event.
Next week's golf will be a monthly medal with G. Bow on office duty and J. Lodding in the bar.
● On Wednesday October 7, nine ladies played, managing to just beat the rain.
There was only one grade on the day, while it was also the monthly medal. The winner of the monthly medal was Karyn Thompson with 72 points.
Karyn won both the 18 and nine competition, with 72 and 33.5. Annette Mills won the second ball for the 18 holes with 75, while Sue Verge came in second for the nine-hole competition with 34.5.
None of the ladies managed nearest the pins. Next week will be Par.
Meanwhile, four men played with Glen Evans taking all the wins.
For 18 holes Glen was 71 and for the nine holes he made 35.5. Glen also made nearest the pins on the 13th.
Due to poor weather conditions, the Thursday chicken run was not played.
