McDonald makes mark in Melbourne Vixens win

Seymour's Elle McDonald took to the court for her second Super Netball appearance on Saturday as the Melbourne Vixens locked up the minor premiership with a win over Collingwood.

Facing their cross-town rivals in the Magpies, the Vixens were considered easy favourites against a team searching for its second win of the season.

But the Magpies didn't make life easy for the Vixens, getting off to a hot start.

Shooting the first eight goals of the game to go up 17-12 in the first quarter, the Magpies made the Vixens sweat early.

But the competition leaders used the super shot to their advantage early in the second term to outscore their rivals 18-9 and take a four-goal lead into the second half.

From there the Vixens stayed the course, taking out the match 61-53.

With Melbourne midcourter Liz Watson out injured, McDonald shared the wing attack role with starter Tayla Honey.

First career goal for Cole the cherry on top

Coming in for more minutes in the third term, McDonald added more drive in attack to finish the game with 14 feeds and 11 goal assists.

With two rounds left to play, the Vixens will face Queensland Firebirds on Sunday, before clashing with second-placed Sunshine Coast Lightning a week later.
