Seymour trio recognised in All Star teams

By Meg Saultry

After stinging CBL premiership defeats at the hands of Wallan Panthers and Wodonga Wolves respectively, the Seymour Blasters and Lady Blasters didn’t go home empty-handed on grand final night, with three players recognised for their individual achievements.

Capping off a stellar campaign with the Lady Blasters, Tayha Watkins was named in the North East Women's All Star 5 team.

Ranked second in the competition for points scored this season, Watkins joined grand final opponents in Wodonga's Mel Kirby (league top scorer) and Caitlin Reid in the line-up.

All smiles: Seymour's Tayha Watkins (right) joins Wodonga's Mel Kirby and Caitlin Reid in the North East Women's All Star 5.

It has been a prodigious rise for Watkins, 16, who took it right up to players well beyond her years.

In the North East Men’s competition, Seymour pair Robbie Sartori and Jack Murphy also finished their seasons with All Star 5 selection.

Joining the Seymour pair were Wallan brothers Max and Leo Viitala, as well as Benalla Breakers big man Lachy Kego.

It was back-to-back All Star 5 selection for Sartori, who also added a further feather in his cap by taking out best defensive player in the league for a second year running.
