And on the eve of another season kicking into high-gear, the Swans are making another call out for junior players interested in playing with the club’s under-18 side.
Under-18 coach Tylah Long said the club’s youngest squad was 16 players strong at this point in time but were still searching for more talent.
“It’s not too bad at the moment, though we haven’t got as many numbers, as much as (we'd) like,” Long said.
“It’s only early, but we’ve got 16 players as a group.
“The vibe has been good, I spoke to a few players after our training, and they said they enjoyed the sessions with the seniors.”
Long said the under-18s would look to train both as a group with the seniors, as well as scheduling their own individual trainings.
“We’ll do a bit of both, but the senior training will help get them ready for footy in the future,” the coach said.
“We’ll get them in early and get them ready for the season.”
Up first for the junior side will be a clash with Nagambie when the season kicks off on April 18.
“It will be tough, but really good,” Long said.
“The rivalry between Avenel and Nagambie is strong, and the Lakers are a good team.”
Avenel’s football squads return to training at Avenel Recreation Reserve on Wednesday, January 29 from 6 pm.
Over on the netball courts, Avenel’s netball squads are gearing up for their own season, with trials to kick-start the new year.
Senior trials will be held on Monday, February 10, Wednesday, February 12 and Saturday, February 15.
