Winning the toss and batting first, the Northerners’ top order set the standard at Tallygaroopna Recreation Reserve, with trio Ben Pedretti (33), Rhiley Lau (40) and Joel Brett (41) all putting runs on the board.
Lakers’ Brayden Biggs (3-46) and James Auld (2-15) did what they could to break through the Northerners’ defence, which finished on 9-189 from 45 overs.

But it was the relentless pressure of a Northerners attack which finished the job, as the home side ripped through the Lakers’ top order.
With four players taking two wickets apiece, it was perhaps Zane Newbound’s haul which proved most crucial, as he claimed the highly coveted wickets of Luke and Mark Nolan (6 and 2).

Nagambie opener Ricky Misiti (22) helped things along at the top, but it was mostly left up to the Lakers’ tail end to push for an unlikely win; their seventh through to ninth batsmen, Josh Sanderson (24), Nathan Fothergill (12), and Biggs (10), were the next best scorers.
After losing to Numurkah in round seven late last year, the Lakers’ most recent defeat sees them slip down to fourth with four home and away rounds remaining.
Nagambie will host bottom ranked team Karramomus in another one-day match at Nagambie Recreation Reserve this Saturday, with play scheduled for 12.30 pm.
