The women continue to have smaller fields during these winter months but there is enough to hold competitions.
Di Byrne (18) came into some good form on Wednesday to win the day with the top score of 39 points.
The men’s Wednesday stableford competition was won by Bill Stevens (24), who had a good score of 38 points. The next best was Jock Mundy with .34 points. Nearest to the pins went to the club on the 4th, Jock Mundy on the 6th, Sandy Cresswell on the 12th and Stormy Tempest on the 17th. A score of 33 points was needed to be in the ball pool.
The mixed 9 hole winner was Duncan Chisholm (34) who had 16 points on a countback from Stubby Byrne with the same score. Vic Bottaro and Phil Block were also in the ball pool with their scores of 15 and 14 points respectively.
On Saturday the men played a stroke round and the best score of the day was in B grade with Sandy Cresswell winning with 86-15=71. The A grade winner was Ian Richardson with a steady 79-7=72. Mark Corradin had the best scratch score of the day with 76. The social 6 holes next Friday is stableford over holes 10-15. Saturday is a stableford round for both the men and the women.
Avenel
Saturday’s glimpse of beautiful spring weather saw our fields vastly improved on last week, for the second round of the club champs and the monthly medal rounds. The course is winning the battle at the moment, with scores well off the DSR, however Dave Fullager played pretty well to return a 74 nett and claim his second medal for the year (and second on the trot I might add). Congrats Dave!!
David Grecian was runner-up by countback over Heath Wyllie, and ball winners were Dave F, David G, Heath, Tim Batten and Lance Carracher. The NTP’s and birdie balls remain with the club.
The Ladies also had a bigger field this week, and congrats go to Pam Pedder who scored 76 nett to win the Medal, 3 ahead of Marlene Hull who collected a ball in the ball comp and a second one for her shot to the 8th. Well done ladies.
Last Tuesday was a par event and Graeme Toy put a very good score together, with plus 3. He and Marlene were ball winners but once again no-one was close enough to claim NTP on the 18th.
Our Ladies tournament is scheduled for tomorrow (Thursday), so hopefully the weather gods have been kind enough to allow for the course to be cut and the sands raked. Numbers are down a bit (at the time of writing the notes), but hopefully we’ve received some more entries in the meantime.
Members are reminded to bring a salad and cake/slice but inquiries can be directed to Joyce White or Marlene Hull in this regard.
Next Saturday is the 3rd round of the championships and it is also the final of the Silver Spoon for the ladies.
Tuesday’s comp will be stableford.
Finally, don’t forget to return your raffle books/money and a contribution to the prize, as soon as possible, as it’s to be drawn next week, in time for Father’s Day.
Nagambie
The first of three big fourball events was played at Nagambie with a slight hint of spring in the air and a gentle north wind crossing the course for the annual Wyndham Accounting best ball.
The winning pair on the day were Tim Baldwin and Dean Brown combining seamlessly to garner 42 points from two single figure handicaps. Runner-up was the volatile combination of Jeff Mills and Phil Neville, producing 40 points. Next best went to the pairing of Greg Whiteman and Bob Norris with a respectable 39.
Nearest the pins went to Phil Hageman bombing it into the 13th and Dean Brown getting the job done on the 16th. Next weeks golf will be a par event with P. Neville in the bar and D. Brow on office duty.
