The students will now go on to represent Tocumwal at the zone final.
Eight students from across Years 3/4 and 5/6 from Tocumwal Public School and Tocumwal Sacred Heart School presented speeches to a crowd of 50 parents, teachers, friends and Lions members at the weekend.
Year 3/4 students were required to present a three minute prepared speech on holiday locations outside of NSW that they'd love to visit.
Popular holiday spots were Monkey Mia Beach, Uluru, Cairns, and Fraser Island.
Year 5/6 students presented a four minute prepared speech on historical figures from the 19th century, with Vincent Van Gough, Nellie Bligh, and Peter Fintan Lalor featured.
The older students were also required to give an impromptu one minute speech, with only 10 minutes to prepare.
The topic was chosen by the judges, and asked the students to speak on whether corellas were damaging or delightful to Tocumwal.
“All students did a wonderful job and we do not envy the judges Leanne Crow and Paul Kelly for having to choose just one winner from each year group,” said Lions secretary Carol Kennedy.
