Adopted at a special meeting of council on Wednesday night, council outlined how it will spend the $41.917 million of revenue generated through rates, charges and grants for the forthcoming financial year, with a $7.522 million surplus predicted.
“Council presented to the community during May and June 2022 a proposed budget that maintains key services council provides the community, assists in the delivery of major projects and invests in community-led initiatives that will grow the Gannawarra shire now and in the future,” Gannawarra Shire Council mayor Charlie Gillingham said.
“The 2022-23 budget includes projects that were dependent on funding from the state and federal government, with council successful in obtaining funding to support three projects that will transform liveability, recreational and tourism opportunities for residents and visitors alike.”
Major projects that will proceed in 2022-23 include stage 3 of the redevelopment of Kerang CBD, the Sustainable Water for Quambatook Project, Gannawarra Shire Children’s Centre, and inclusive play spaces in Kerang and Cohuna.
“Council’s 2022-23 budget will maintain key services council provides to the community, such as our popular Community Care and Children’s services, libraries, Creative Gannawarra, waste management and recreational facilities,” Cr Gillingham said.
“The 2022-23 budget also complies with the State Government’s Fair Go Rates System, which states that the total revenue raised through municipal rates cannot increase by more than 1.75 per cent compared to the previous year.”
Council sought community feedback regarding the 2022-23 proposed budget during a 19-day period, resulting in two people providing feedback.
“Council thanks the community for their input into the 2022-23 budget and looks forward to working together to implement the extensive projects and services outlined in the document,” Cr Gillingham said.
