In mid-2025, Greater Shepparton City Council announced it would introduce two hard-waste collections a year from July 2026, but those plans are now on hold.
A recent evaluation of council’s procurement process found that it was unable to secure a competitive contract.
Council will now seek to introduce the service in the 2027-28 financial year.
Acting director infrastructure Janelle Bunfield said council would ensure that services were financially responsible and that “council’s commitment to introducing a hard-waste collection service remains unchanged”.
City of Greater Shepparton Mayor Shane Sali said the outcome was not satisfactory but that “taking the time now allows us to make sure the service we introduce in 2027-28 is affordable, consistent and fit-for-purpose for our municipality”.
“The community will be kept informed as council progresses the new tender process,” Cr Sali said.
