A qualified dental prosthetist, Veronica opened VH Denture Clinic and used her decades of experience to offer locals professional denture care.
Veronica said her goal when striking out on her own was to offer high-quality dentures and mouthguards, while providing great client service and satisfaction.
“I grew up in Seymour and knew I was always going to come back. I spent time working in Melbourne and Shepparton but have enjoyed being back in Seymour,” she said.
“I wanted to give people the option of high-quality dentures and mouth guards from a local provider. You shouldn’t have to go to Melbourne for that.”
VH Denture Clinic offers full and partial dentures, repairs and relines, denture adjustments and precision metal dentures.
Veronica said she was often asked about the best way to take care of dentures and get the most value for money.
“Your best bet is to rinse them after every meal. That isn’t always possible, you don’t want to be whipping your teeth out after lunch at work, but do it as much as possible,” she said.
“What people don’t always realise is dentures are not set and forget. While they don’t take as much maintenance as real teeth, they still need to be looked after.
“I recommend people come to get their dentures checked and adjusted every two years and have them replaced every eight to 10 years.”
Veronica said a lot of common problems with dentures were due to movements in the mouth and the inability of the denture to adjust.
“The mouth changes over time but the dentures don’t. That’s why you need to get them checked every two years,” she said.
“Proper fitting dentures means you get less food stuck in them, they sit more comfortably and they look a lot better.”
While hygiene and infection control were already strict, Veronica said a few changes had been made after COVID-19 restrictions were implemented.
“Most of my patients are elderly so they’re in the at-risk category for coronavirus,” she said.
“It’s great to see people doing the right thing and taking it seriously. Dentures are not life or death, so people are postponing their appointments until it’s safer.
“We’ve put limits on the amount of people allowed in the clinic and have stepped up our infection control to ensure safety is maintained when people come in.”
