Senior Constable Amy Voisey and First Constable Ali Keevil ran a combined 260 km when they participated in Run 4 Blue, a virtual run held in May each year.
Participants decide how many kilometres to walk, run or wheel throughout the month and choose which Police Legacy to support with their registration.
The two officers dedicated their efforts to the four police officers who were killed in Kew earlier this year.
“I felt it was a great cause to spread awareness of Police Legacy and the support they provide to police families,” Sen Const Voisey said.
“I also hoped the number of members involved and the money raised would help the families to feel supported and understand the pain felt throughout the police force from the loss of their valued family members.
“Ali and I both felt very passionate about this experience. The deaths of the four police officers affected everyone we know both in the job and in the community.
“We felt it was a positive way to deal with the loss and to support our friends and family.
“In a tragedy like this you feel the shock throughout the organisation but you also see the affect it has on your family members, who are often exposed to the experiences you deal with every day.”
Sen Const Voisey said she wasn’t a keen runner and jogging two or three times per week was a challenge.
“It became more challenging as the month continued because I sustained soreness to my knees due to the increase in distance and frequency of my running,” she said.
“I wanted to achieve 100 km and I managed to reach that goal, so I was really happy. It’s amazing what running tape and a good physio can help you achieve.”
