The experience left her with admiration and gratitude for medical staff and support services working 24/7 during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Diane said the work done by the teams at Seymour Health, Nagambie Healthcare, Goulburn Valley Health (GV Health) and Shepparton Private Hospital was invaluable.
“More than 50 years ago, when they landed on the moon in 1969, I gave birth to my first son in the maternity wing of GV Health,” she said.
“It was thanks to the quick work of Seymour Health medical and support staff that I was able to get to GV Health for the emergency treatment I needed with his birth.
“I have been an insulin-depended diabetic for 28 years and have had several major medical operations since 1994.
“I’ve known for a long time that our medical staff don’t get the appreciation they deserve. The pandemic is highlighting just how much they do.”
Diane said she wanted medical staff to know how much the community appreciates them, even if they don’t say it.
“So many people, including myself, would not be here if it wasn’t for the skills and experience of our medical staff,” she said.
“Not only are they good at what they do, but they are compassionate and understanding of each individual’s circumstances. You’re treated as a person and not just a case number.
“Every day I thank God we have these amazing people in our community and that they are backed by a strong health system.”
