Seymour Rotary collects rubbish around Seymour

The Rotary Club of Seymour has been busy keeping district roads clean as part of its commitment to the Adopt a Road project.

While remaining socially distant, eight members picked up litter at the truck parking area along the Seymour-Shepparton arterial on May 24, collecting enough to fill the tray of a ute.

Adopt a Road aims to tidy Seymour and district and is conducted three times a year. It includes the outskirts of Seymour to Puckapunyal, Shepparton and Yea.

Rotarian Catriona Jarman said it was shameful the countryside next to what should be a picturesque area adjacent to the billabong could be littered.

“The truck parking area is always badly littered as people stop there with picnic food and leave their rubbish behind,” she said.

“I picked up a kilo of prawn heads and three beer bottles that had been scattered around.

“Rubbish bins have been removed from the site which was also a target for overflowing rubbish. The amount of litter had marginally improved but only just.”

New volunteers are always welcome to join Rotary or assist with its activities.
