The refurbished VCE and VCAL centres were part of the school’s recently completed $6.7 million building upgrade.
The aim of the new buildings was to create a collective working space that would house all VCE and VCAL students and six senior teachers.
The new space allows for a private study area away from the rest of the school that will help in the push towards collaborative education.
VCAL captain Ewan McCloy said the new building was great for creating a sense of community among the senior students.
“It means we can get the most out of our learning. There’s no more moving all around the school for classes as everything is centralised and convenient,” she said.
“The teachers can now tailor the space to our needs and build a culture that will allow us to get the most out of our final years of school.”
College captain Sattine Wilson said the students had elected multicultural and Aboriginal captain Janaya Claydon to ensure everyone’s needs were catered for in the new space.
“We are trying to build a culture of awareness and diversity,” she said.
“Having Janaya gives us all an understanding of different cultures and makes sure the space is inclusive for everyone.”
VCE co-ordinator Sharon Hill said she was excited to be in the new building and to already see the students making it their own.
“They’re very excited to be in a space that is uniquely theirs,” she said.
“It’s something we have wanted for a long time as we think it’s important for senior students to have their own learning area.
“It opens up so many more options for building a senior culture and implementing collaborative learning.
“That will help with the ultimate goal of giving students every opportunity to get the most out of their learning and achieving their potential.”
