The extended service offers three additional days for patients to receive dialysis treatment in 2020. New session times are now offered on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturday mornings.
Previously, treatment sessions were only offered on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays using the six specialised dialysis chairs which are designed for patient comfort and nurse safety.
The introduction of additional hours provides greater flexibility for consumers and responds to current waiting lists.
Extending the hours of this service means more residents who require dialysis can readily access treatment provided by highly qualified nursing staff in Seymour without the need to travel.
Dialysis patient and Seymour resident Stephen McGregor is grateful for the increased service.
Mr McGregor began dialysis treatment at the Royal Melbourne Hospital (RMH) in October and the closest available dialysis chair to accommodate his ongoing treatment was in Greensborough or, alternatively, at the very busy RMH.
Regular treatment involved remaining seated in the dialysis chair three times a week, for 4 ½ hours each session.
Mr McGregor travelled to Greensborough for three months before the Seymour service's expansion created an opportunity for him to receive quality treatment and care close to home.
“I feel very special. I am the only one in here at the moment on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday and I have my own nurse,” Mr McGregor said.
“The care is really fantastic and all the staff are terrific.”
