The “Know your Numbers” program offers consumers a free 30-minute health check assessment delivered by a registered nurse at the Seymour Health Ambulatory Care Centre.
Community members who make an appointment will be checked for a number of risks relating to heart health, stroke and diabetes using screening tools from the Heart Foundation and Diabetes Australia.
Information will also be provided about smoking cessation, women’s health, men’s health, bowel screening, oral health and general wellbeing and people will have the chance to discuss any health issues they may be concerned about.
Referrals can also be made by the nurse to GPs for further follow-up if required.
Seymour Health quality and safety assistant director Vickie Callaghan encouraged all residents to take advantage of checking their health.
“This is a great opportunity for our community members to have their health status assessed for a number of health risks, which can give them peace of mind and all free of charge,” she said.
The free Know your Numbers health check program has previously been offered to staff members at Seymour Health as part of the organisation’s health and wellbeing plan.
The overall response from staff was positive, with many indicating they felt the program was very beneficial.
As a result, additional sessions have now been extended to the broader community.
Appointments will be available from 8.30am to 4.30pm on November 7, November 21, December 2 and December 16.
