Seven of V/Line’s 11 services failed to meet their targets while more than half of the services on the north-east line ran late last month, according to the latest V/Line performance figures.
Geelong, Bendigo, Gippsland, Warrnambool, Ararat/Maryborough, Albury-Wodonga and Bairnsdale all failed to meet the 92 per cent punctuality target.
The north-east line recorded just 48.3 per cent of trains arriving on time in July — its lowest point since month performance data was published.
A quarter of all trains on the Bairnsdale line also ran late (76.8 per cent) last month.
Shadow Regional Public Transport Minister Steph Ryan said Premier Daniel Andrews had “hit the brakes” on V/Line by failing to make the investment that was needed to deliver reliable, modern, comfortable, fast regional rail services.
“Labor are deaf to the countless Victorians who are inconvenienced on a daily basis by delays, breakdowns and cancellations,” she said.
“The Federal Government continue to do the heavy lifting to deliver better country rail services, contributing more than $1.6 billion towards $1.75 billion in rail upgrades across regional Victoria.
“Daniel Andrews has found billions to pour into level crossing cost blowouts in Melbourne but he’s abandoned country Victorians.”
