Mr Keeffe joined Balwyn Rotary Club in 1996 when he was no longer working full-time because he wanted to give back to the community.
After moving to Seymour, he again felt the itch to contribute to the community that had embraced him, and became a local Rotarian.
‘‘There are a lot of people volunteering in a range of community groups in Seymour and district,’’ Mr Keeffe said.
‘‘It’s a great community to live and work in and I’m really pleased to take a leading role in Rotary.’’
Mr Keeffe said he hoped to maintain the forward momentum Ms Baker had built in her year at the helm.
‘‘We have been involved in some fantastic initiatives under Mariam’s guidance and I hope to continue that and also seek out new ones,’’ he said.
‘‘Our club has a loyal base of members keen to help and it’s a privilege to have that support.
‘‘Rotary is an important part of the local community and I will be working hard to maintain that.’’
Ms Baker said leading the club for the past year was an honour that allowed her to step out of her comfort zone and establish a better understanding of Rotary.
‘‘I thoroughly enjoyed my time as president of Seymour Rotary and I’m proud to see a long list of achievements through the year,’’ she said.
‘‘But that wouldn’t be possible without the support of the board and fantastic members.
‘‘It takes a great group of supportive people to bring it all together and make the year the success it was.
‘‘I will continue to be part of the club as vocation chair and I look forward to seeing even more achievements under John keeffe’s leadership.’’
