Accused cold case shooter found not guilty

Omar pleaded not guilty in the NSW Supreme Court and on Wednesday he was acquitted of the charge by a jury. 

The murder was said to have occurred amid an escalating feud over money between Safwan and Omar's brother, a Sydney court was earlier told. 

A meeting on April 20 to negotiate the debt ended when Safwan abruptly stood up, appeared to reach for a gun and was tackled, the court was told. 

Omar's defence lawyer John Korn acting for him in 2019 said police recorded Safwan making extremely hostile and violent threats towards his client's family. 

When Safwan turned up to the Riverwood street about midnight a day later he was shot multiple times in the head, back and arm. 

But the defence case was there was no evidence linking Omar to the shooting.
