Libro Mustica has made history as the first mayor of Moira Shire to serve his third consecutive term.
The historical moment was short and sharp as Cr Mustica’s nomination was the only one to be seconded and accepted on Wednesday night.
Cr Mustica was first elected unopposed in 2017-18.
“I am honoured to be re-elected as mayor for this last term of council before the local government elections in 2020,” Cr Mustica said.
He said it was important the community had confidence in and trusted council to invest in community interests.
“I believe it is vital for locals to have a voice and know that we are here to listen,” Cr Mustica said.
“We need to continue investing in our people.
“And we need to create communities where our youth can not only get a job, but develop a lifelong career in Moira, rather than moving away to the city.”
Councillors Wendy Buck, Kevin Bourke and Peter Mansfield were nominated for the top job, but neither Cr Buck’s or Cr Bourke’s nominations were seconded, while Cr Mansfield declined his nomination.
Cr Peter Lawless was also re-elected for his second term as deputy mayor.
The deputy mayor and Cr Buck were neck-in-neck for the position, 5-3.
Cr Lawless was dedicated to further working with the Moira community in the final term before local government elections in 2020.
“I am honoured to be elected deputy mayor for a second time,” he said.
