YMCC Under 14s Rams & Lakers

By Yarrawonga Chronicle

LAKERS

The Under 14 Lakers travelled to South Wangaratta to battle with RUB Blue full of confidence.

After losing the toss and sent out to field the Lakers made early breakthroughs.

Harry Barker bowled one of the openers in his second over and Jack Bassett had two players caught in his first.

Jack finished his 2 overs with 2 wickets for 2 runs.

The Lakers bowlers continued to keep pressure on the batsman with tight fielding and bowling a great line.

Then Will Turnell took the ball and also picked up 2 wickets, the first was a very sharp caught and bowled.

Like Jack Bassett he also ended up with 2 for 2 from 2.

At the end of their 21 overs RUB Blue managed to compile 5 for 56, a target the Lakers were very pleased in chasing.

The Lakers chase started well with Dillon Kirchen playing some classy strokes against the pace attack.

However the loss of 2 wickets with the score on 12 put some pressure back on the Lakers.

It wasn’t until Rudi Vodusek strode to the crease and was soon joined by Harry Barker that things really got going.

Both batsman played shots and kept the score ticking over before they were retired.

This enabled Tom Coffey to play one of his best innings so far, punishing anything short and seeing that victory was the Lakers.

He ended up hitting the winning runs with 3 overs to go.

The Lakers finished the innings with 6 for 68 and a much-deserved win.

The win was set up by some very controlled bowling, only conceding 5 extras.

Awards: Yarrawonga Fish and Chips – Will Turnell, Crusty Loaf Bakery – Jack Costigan and Ricky D’s Pizza -– Tom Coffey.

RAMS

Hot,hot,hot.

The YMCC Under 14 Rams headed to Wangaratta to take on the Rovers Green side in super hot conditions.

Missing four players, the Rams decided to bat and get a score to defend but things didn’t go to plan and the Rams found themselves in all sorts of trouble being all out for 58 runs.

Jobe Fraser was the best of the bats with 23 not out.

Ben Kennedy 7 and Maya Hargreaves 4.

Although the score was a small one, the efforts being put in by each of the batters was fantastic. Three run outs did not help the teams cause and the young Rams will look to the training nets to try to improve this aspect of their game.

Well done to Bronte Thomson who made her debut at the batting crease with 1 not out.

After the break the Rams came out firing with an early wicket to Jett Peters and all bowlers bowling a tight line and length.

Jeremy Bramich the pick of the bowlers, bowling 2 overs for 4 runs and Bronte Thomson 1 over for 7 runs including a prized first wicket.

The Rovers sides strong batting eventually got on top and got to a total of 2/111 to give them the win.

The game was over but there was still room for bragging rights as sub fielders and Rams young guns, Zeppelin Bramich age 9 and Darcy Hargreaves age 7 had a bowl at the Rovers subs. Zeppelin bowled superbly having a catch dropped off his bowling and making the bats play and miss.

Darcy bowling leg spin took 2 wickets with sharp turning deliveries.

The future of the YMCC looks bright with young players of this calibre coming through the ranks. A big thank you to Zac Fraser, Bronte Thomson, Zeppelin Bramich and Darcy Hargreaves for sub fielding in the hot weather.

Well done Rams players, your attitude and commitment was fantastic in a long hot game. Awards: Bronte Thomson- Crusty Loaf, Zeppelin Bramich- Yarrawonga Fish ‘n’ chips, Darcy Hargreaves- Ricky D’s Pizza.
