Division A1 – ClubMulwala 50 (11) defeated YMGCR 45 (3)
The A1 side is proving this season that they can be very competitive in this competition and although there are three standout sides, the second season in this division has been very productive.
There are games against quality sides like YMGCR where you just want to do well and be competitive and if you come away with a win then that is a bonus.
This was one of those games.
To be able to have a win over the top side in the competition is very rewarding considering the quality of the players we were facing.
The club will take this one and savour it for a while.
Results as follows:
Graeme Arnold, Daryl Richmond, Graham Albert and Stephen McPhee 23 defeated Leslie Spencer, Michael Szabo, Robyn Moore and Laureen Smith 13.
Daryl Dighton, Peter Humphreys, Malcolm Miller and Kim Lefevre 12 lost to Anne Miles, Wayne Lowrie, Gary Presnell and Rhonda Irvine 17.
Mick Millsom, Eugene Hodson, Kerry Merrett and Bev Norwood 15 drew with Garry Sanders, Greg Green, Sue Middleton and Claire Sanders 15.
Ladder Position – 5.
Division B1 – ClubMulwala 53 (2) lost to Swanpool 59 (12)
The B1 side lost a few players this week. Some were promoted to the A1 side to cover absentees and others were unavailable for various reasons.
Still, they performed very well with some playing in unfamiliar positions. A couple of the rinks were fairly close and a little bit of luck could have turned the result around.
This one got away and they will not be happy with this result.
Results as follows:
Wayne Dowsey, Jodi Powell, Joan Connor and Wade McPherson 17 lost to Remo Ascenzo, Leslie Mitchell, Judy Barber and Kevin Mayne 19.
Loris Lochhead, Betty Richmond, Doug Chessum and Judy Laughlin 22 defeated Jennifer Sievwright, Michael Turner, Rosie Daws and Lorraine Marshall 16.
Faye Cook, Ray Tovey, Nicole McPherson and Phill Norwood 14 lost to Sarah Mathieson, Wayne Armistead, Gordon Renkin and Harry Barber 24.
Ladder Position – 1.
Division B2 – ClubMulwala - BYE
Saturday, Jan 29 – Weekend Pennant – Round 9
Division A3 – ClubMulwala 76 (16) defeated Bright 66 (2)
This was a closely fought match with the ClubMul side winning three of the four rinks.
The scores are an indication of how close the match was and the possibility of how the result could have swung at various times throughout the day.
Bright sure know their greens and the ClubMul team have not played on such slow greens for quite some time.
Still we played the game out, at all times keeping in mind the overall result that was wanted.
Results as follows:
Peter Humphreys, Eugene Hodson, Bev Norwood and Graham Albert 16 defeated Patrick O’Shea, Elaine O’Shea, Beverly Griffith and Ernest Vanderwert 12.
Daryl Dighton, Malcolm Miller, Jodi Powell and Judy Laughlin 24 defeated Bill Hayes, Julie Ellis, Trevor Poyner and Elizabeth Barker 17.
Mick Millsom, Kerry Merrett, Wayne Dowsey and Stephen McPhee 17 lost to Martin Kupferle, Otto Kupferle, Trevor Barker and Robert Ryan 22.
Gary Parker, Graeme Arnold, Daryl Richmond and Jan Morton 19 defeated Cheryl Raduczic, Peter Raduczic, Gregory Pepyat and Stephen Jenvey 15.
Ladder Position – 4.
Division B2 – ClubMulwala 75 (14) defeated Yarrawonga 39 (0)
Another great win by the B2’s against a local club in Yarrawonga winning all rinks on the day.
This team is performing very well with several of their players absent. They have maintained 3rd spot on the ladder and can improve this position with good performances in the weeks to come.
Results as follows:
James Murdoch, Faye Cook, Anita Albert and Russell Cook 28 defeated Raymond Butler, Eric Scott, Rosene Andrews and Neville Marsden 6.
Loris Lochhead, Betty Richmond, Nolar Mongor and Jan Martin 24 defeated Dwanne Piercy, Ted Edwards, Richard Smith and Jill Lamson 18.

Thoughts are with you all during this sad time in your lives. RIP John and Des.
The Bob Jeffcott Memorial 60 and Over Tournament was held on Thursday, January 27. Thankfully the weather held off long enough to get the games in as it has been difficult for the organisers to find a day to fit Bob’s Memorial Day in. Winners of the day were Chiltern and Runners Up Kiewa Valley.
Thanks must go to Maurie Lee (60 + Over Coordinator) Brian Batty for all his help in the office, and of course all the ladies that helped out with catering, selling raffle tickets etc.
Thank you to all that helped out in any way to make this day a success.

YMGCR Bowls
Weekend Pennant had the long-awaited clash between top of the table Wangaratta and YMGCR at Wang.
Unfortunately, the result didn’t go YMGCR’s way and they lost 3/69 to 15/90.
Best rink was Michael Szabo’s rink with a 18/15 win, the star was new boy Micky Vaughan who lead beautifully all day.
Scotty Widdison’s rink showed a lot of courage to be 10 down at one stage and fight their way back for a well earn draw 21/21.
Disco Davis got his first chance as skip and did well, but a few bad ends going down 16/25, Jimmy Lefevre went down 14/29, but YMGCR are still sit 2nd on the ladder.
A2’s had a danger game against Mansfield at home and after the first-round thrashing (losing by 60 shots at Mansfield) they were determined to make amends.
And that they did winning 18/91 to 0/59, with a newly promoted skip in Rob Hummel and finally Ian Morffew getting a start as a second.
The rink gelled instantly and was always in control to win 23/13.
Cat’s rink was solid most of the day except for a few ends in the middle but they powered home to register a great win against Mansfield top play and they won 26/16.
Brown’s rink start slowly but then Winderbank, Jenkins and Dousty then lifted to get a win 21/12. Smithy was in the battle of the day and on the last end scores were level. The rink then put their heads down and came away with a 21/18 win.
They are still 3rd on the ladder and only 2 points from 2nd but with Mansfield sitting 5th and now 24 points behind YMGCR it now gives the club a bit of breathing space.
With a depleted side the A4’s had to travel to Tungamah and boy did they do the club proud, winning 16/79 to 2/73.
Doddy stepped up to skip this week and his side had a fantastic win 24/17 well supported by Bob Evans who in a tight game winning 18/13 and Garry Hart who was also thrusted into the skipper’s job won 22/19. His side won the last 14 shots to take a great victory and Whitehead lost 15/24.
This still keeps them in touch of the 4.
B2’s played top of the table side Chiltern at home and lost 1/43 to 13/77. Billy Butterworth’s rink was always in a tight game and came away with a well deserve draw 18/18.
Pam Dodman rink lost 14/28 and Terry Matthews lost 11/31. It’s very hard in the “B”s as every week the side can have massive changes due to players in other sides being unavailable and if there could be a more settled side they would win games.
Midweek Pennant saw the A1’s play across road rival ClubMulwala away and they played great bowls to beat YMGCR 3/45 to 11/50.
They are a tough side to beat because last year they drew with YMGCR. Anne Miles continued on her winning way with a 17/12 win, Garry Sanders had a tight game all day and got a draw 15/15 and Spencer went down 13/13. This still keeps them at the top.
A2’s played Wodonga at Wodonga and on a very slow green (11seconds) YMGCR could not adjust and went down 0/47 to 14/78.
Stuart McNeill lost 15/23, Bob Evans’ rink who was down 3/29 showed a lot of ticker clawing their way back to lose 17/30 and Brown’s rink lost 15/25. YMGCR are still 2nd on the ladder.
A4’s played Wodonga at home and lost 2/46 to 12/67. Danny McNeill’s rink dominated all day to win 21/10, Whitehead lost 16/26 and Balfour went down 9/31. They sit 5th on the ladder only half a game from 4th.
B1’s played Corowa Civic at home and won 12/67 to 2/51. Morffew’s rink had a good win 27/16, Judy Goudge’s rink had a good day and won 21/12 and Essex went down 19/23.
This weeks “RINK OF THE WEEK” goes to Danny McNeill, Gavin Borwick, Lillana Bowick and the smiling assassin Cecilia Milne.
The draw for the Mixed Pairs Championship is out and the first game HAS to be played by February 20 or you will be OUT!
There will be a memorial for past president John Banger at ClubMulwala on Friday, February 4 at 1pm with refreshments and sandwich’s to be provided.
