There was no women’s competition on Wednesday again this week but the men were out on the course for the regular stableford competition. The winner was John Mundy (23) who had a good score of 38 points. The runner-up was John Boruch (11) with 37 points on a countback from Rob Oldman with the same score. The nearest the pins went to Mark Fountain on the 6th, Alan Coulson on the 12th, Greg Pell on the 17th and the 4th stayed with the club. On Friday the Seymour women were out and about again and brought home a trophy. This week it was at Nagambie for the Shirley Dean Memorial Trophy. As this is in memory of the late mother of one of Seymour’s members, Pam Jarvis, the Seymour women usually have a good representation at this event and this year it paid off. Glenda Woods and Di Byrne combined well in the four ball competition to have 40 points to win the day.
The social 6 holes were over holes 1–6 and it was in quite chilly conditions at this time of year. That didn’t bother Greg Pell (5) who had +2 to be the winner. There were three players with the second best score of square: Gary Wright, Peter Nelson and Craig Zotti.
Saturday was the second and final round of the Parker Plate for both the men and the women. Gary Wright (11) and Dan O’Sullivan (13) didn’t score as well as last week but their plus-4 this week was enough to secure victory for the Parker Plate with a total score of plus 14.
In the women’s results, Paula Britton (12) and Di Byrne (18) held on to be the women’s Parker Plate winners with a total score of plus-10 also after a daily score of plus-4.

Roger Edwards claimed the nearest the pins on the 4th and 12th holes as well as the drive and pitch on the 8th. The nearest the pin on the 6th was Jerry Bender and on the 17th it was Dave Pearce who also won the drive and pitch on the 15th. Pairs needed a score of plus 6 on a count back to be in the ball pool.
In the women’s results, the day’s winners were Pam Jarvis (23) and Liz Gee (26) with plus-4 on a countback from Paula Britton and Di Byrne. The nearest the pin on the 17th was Pam Jarvis. The ball pool went to those pairs with plus 4.
Next Friday, the social 6 holes are over holes 10-15 and the game is stableford. Next Saturday is the club event, which is a two-person ambrose and there will be a draw for partners.
Nagambie
A three-man ambrose was played at Nagambie on Sunday with a thick dew awaiting the players but this was also accompanied but some brilliant winter sunshine. The winning trio were Shaun Spicer, Des Phelan and Freddy Bird with a 2 under par of the stick 70 less a handicap of 7.33 nett 62.67 which was good enough to win by just half a shot. The runners-up had a par equalling 72 less 8.83 for 63.17. They were Dean Brown, Jeff Mills and Trevor Redfern.
Nearest the pins went to Alby Seenan claiming the 8th once again and Shane McCormick knocking one close on the 16th. The Nagambie pennant team was away at Tocumwal taking on Mooroopna with the team crashing back to earth with a 4&1 loss. This leaves the Nagambie team at one win and one loss and plenty to do to make the finals. Next week’s golf will be a stableford event with B. Cassar on office duty and J. Mills in the bar.

Avenel
It was yet another perfect golfing day last Saturday for the monthly medal rounds. A smaller than usual field of men took to the fairways and it was great to welcome Ash Pedder and his young son, Walter, for a game. Being a bit softer under foot now, the course played long and it was reflected in the scores.
The June medal had to be decided by a countback for the men, with Matt Eddy and Bern Stevens tied on nett 76. Bern was declared the winner, beating Matt by a shot on the back 9. Both players were ball winners along with El Pres, Dale Smith a few shots back on 78.
Dale also won NTP on the 14th but the birdie ball remained with the club.
The ladies were also contesting the monthly medal and elected to play off the short tees. The course was the winner again, with the lack of run making it difficult for players. Lyn Carracher ended up with a reasonable round by parring the last 6 holes to return a nett 75 to win medal. Ball winners were Lyn and Anne Burns but no-one got near the 14th to claim the NTP ball.
Rumour has it that there was a bit of a challenge match played last Tuesday when Anne Burns and Lauris Truscott took on Graeme Toy and Dave Fullager. Apparently the ladies gave the gents a hiding. Well done Anne and Lauris. Wonder if there was a re-match this week?
This Saturday will be a stableford round and will be the last week of office duty for Dale Smith for the men and Marlene and Yvonne for the ladies. Doug Heffey and Dee Wright are on duty for July.
Good golfing to everyone.
