More specifically, Camp Yowochas, just west of Edmonton in Alberta Province in the middle of the country, as part of a gap year.
It will be a far cry — and a fair distance — from her most recent gig since finishing Year 12.
That adventure took her to outback South Australia and the Northern Territory working with indigenous youth as part of the MusiKarma program.
MusiKarma creates programs and initiatives using music as a catalyst for engaging and mentoring young people, particularly those who may be disadvantaged due to their life circumstances.
Through writing songs, creating videoclips and recording them like the professionals, MusiKarma’s organiser Adam Thompson said confidence, self-belief and hope were inspired — leaving a lasting legacy and memories that echoed long after the music faded.
‘‘I first got involved with this group in 2015 as a participant and soon after I received a call from Adam asking me to return as a leader,’’ Ms Butcher said.
‘‘It is a rewarding role and the program I have been working with is MusoMagic, which is designed to unite, engage, motivate and empower groups of all ages through the magic of song.
‘‘Other kids tell us this program changed their ideas about what could be possible for them — and what’s more empowering than that?’’
Yowochas is a summer camp where Ms Butcher will be a leader, working with legions of young Canadians embracing the outdoors lifestyle for the summer holidays.
‘‘That runs from April until September and I expect it to be a bit of an eye-opener as I have not done much overseas travel,’’ Ms Butcher said.
‘‘When I get back I will be doing more work in outback areas until the university year starts.
‘‘I have applied for a science/international affairs degree at Monash and will hear about that in the middle of this month.
‘‘I am very committed to challenges such as climate change and would like to work in that area after graduation.
‘‘There is also a course in advanced science (global challenges) which really interests me.’’
With an ATAR of 82 covering environmental science, biology, English, further maths and psychology (with a fast-tracked hospitality Cert II from Year 11) Ms Butcher looks set to achieve her dreams.
‘‘I’m super-excited about Canada considering how much I love the environment and love learning about different cultures,’’ she said.
‘‘The dream is to have a career empowering people to take action against climate change — and I love sustainability in the environment.’’
