She will be joined by Melbourne University students Raymond Luc and Megan Tran, completing rotations at ERH this year.
‘‘I am very excited to be working with the team at ERH,’’ Dr White said.
‘‘I am hoping to learn as much as I can while working with patients who are often medically compromised. Hopefully I can help improve their dental health and help them best manage their oral health at home.’’
ERH dental service co-ordinator Carmel Beck said 2019 was set to be an exciting year with Dr White and the Melbourne University student dentists jumping on board.
‘‘We haven’t had students in the dental department since 2012, so it is great to see this alliance with Melbourne University commence and to get these fresh faces on board,’’ she said.
‘‘The student dentist program provides exceptional opportunities for these young dentists to develop their skills in a well-supported and supervised setting.”
The student rotations are part of an alliance with Melbourne University which sees the student dentists based with Goulburn Valley Health and complete five one-week placements at ERH, GV Health, Cobram, Rumbalara and Wangaratta.
When students are with ERH, they will work under the supervision of senior dentists Dr Anil Ragade, Dr Anjali Ragade and Dr Daniel Lavery.
‘‘We have waited a long time to get the students here at ERH and this opportunity is very fortunate for ERH and the wider community of Echuca,’’ Dr Ragade said.
‘‘We are looking towards this being a long term partnership with ERH and the University of Melbourne.’’
As ERH finalises a new strategic plan to set the direction of the health service for the next five years, education and training will be at the forefront.
‘‘Our aim at ERH is to be a highly regarded teaching hospital,” ERH chief executive Nick Bush said.
‘‘We want to ensure we continue to provide training to ensure our staff has access to current knowledge so we can provide contemporary, evidence based care for our community.’’
