Roar cleans up in qualifying round

Cobram Roar’s under-12s side sits atop the AWFA competition with 15 wins from 16 matches.

The side travelled to Shepparton on Wednesday to compete in the qualifiers for the Macca’s City Cup.

Roar beat Shepparton United 3-1 in its first match, before accounting for Wangaratta 5-0 in the second match.

In the third and final match, the side beat Tatura to progress to the finals series, which is on at Melbourne City Football Academy on October 1.

‘‘It was the best the boys have played all year,’’ coach and club president Manny Artavilla said.

‘‘They were really strong defensively and they were able to move the ball around well.’’

Roar is the only regional club side in the final 16 and success at this stage would see the boys play before a Melbourne City fixture in the Macca’s City Cup final at AAMI Park.
